“Simon from Bow Goold Architects had previously completed several major building projects at Tyndale Christian School where Brian Schick, our Director of Business Operations, had previously been the Business Manager. In early 2020 Simon was invited to submit a tender to develop a new Master Plan for St Gregory’s College Campbelltown and subsequently won that tender. He was then engaged as the official Architect for the College and to bring the projects in that Master Plan to life.

These projects included an Undercover Entrance to our Administration Building, an upgrade to our staff car park, Senior School Basketball and Futsal Courts, Junior School Basketball and Volleyball Courts. The next project was an $8M Multipurpose Building with a 200-seat theatre, music rooms, food technology and hospitality classroom and general learning areas. During this project the Builder went into Administration and Simon was able to guide us through the process of getting a replacement builder to complete the project as well as assist in defending claims from the Administrators for lost cash retention.

Bow Goold have been involved in all aspects of these projects including design, tendering and project management.

This week have just turned soil on a major project which will see an additional 16 classrooms and a hall built in our Junior School at a cost of $15.5m. We have also just gone out to tender for a project that will see the major renovation of 3 classroom blocks in our Senior School costing $11.3m.  

All the way through these projects Simon and his team have been very responsive to the changing requests of our school building project teams and have worked directly with each member of these teams to provide creative solutions to achieve the best outcomes for our staff and students. Most importantly Simon has helped us stay within budget by suggesting cost saving alternatives and approving on all project invoices before they are paid. For several of our projects, we have had to meet tight deadlines for Catholic Block Grant Authority grant applications and Simon and his team have worked with us and the CBGA to help us be successful in those funding applications.

Having worked in both the Independent and Catholic School sectors for many years Simon has brought a unique perspective to our projects and a wide range of industry contacts. His team have been mindful of the heritage of the College and our Marist traditions and have designed buildings and facilities which not only feel like they fit with the other buildings on the College property but also provide us with contemporary educational facilities that benefit our College community for generations to come as we enter our centennial year”

From the very beginning, Simon's design concept gave us great confidence in the project. The 3D renderings provided a clear vision of what the completed building would look like, allowing us to thoughtfully discuss the finer details and make informed decisions throughout the design process.

The careful planning undertaken before construction commenced made a significant difference to the overall experience for our school community. By considering the practical implications of the build well in advance, disruption was minimised and the construction process was managed exceptionally well.

The finished building is a wonderful addition to the heart of our school. It sits seamlessly within its surroundings, feeling as though it has always belonged there. The thoughtful selection of building materials, together with the positioning of walls and windows, has created a space with excellent thermal performance while also delivering a beautiful aesthetic. From the light-filled central hallway to the strong connection between learning spaces, the building is warm, welcoming and provides an environment where students and staff feel comfortable and inspired.

Our Hope School learning spaces have been purpose-built to meet the unique needs of our students. Every aspect of the design reflects a commitment to creating environments that are cairn, welcoming and supportive. The placement of these rooms within their own wing provides a more controlled setting, both acoustically and visually, while carefully positioned breakout spaces further enhance teaching and learning opportunities.

The café and canteen have also become outstanding features of the development. Simon and Aparna approached the design process with genuine openness, always listening carefully and working alongside us to create spaces that met our needs. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Today, these facilities are enjoyed not on/y by our students and staff but also by the wider community, reflecting our vision of being more thon just a school - we are a community of faith where people gather, connect and belong.

One of the greatest strengths of the project has been the long-term vision behind the design. Consideration was given not on/y to the immediate needs of the school but also to how the building would integrate with future developments. Rather thon creating a standalone facility, the design connects seamlessly with existing multi-storey buildings and infrastructure, including lift access, reducing future construction complexity and ongoing maintenance costs. Provision has also been made for future extensions, ensuring that as the school continues to grow, further development can be achieved more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Throughout the entire project, Simon and Aparna provided exceptional support and guidance. Their expertise was evident across every stage-from concept design, tendering and contract administration to site meetings, material sections and managing variations. They were consistent/y available, approachable and willing to shore their knowledge and foresight, ensuring that every decision contributed to the best possible outcome.

Looking back on the completed project, the true value of their partnership is unmistakable. Their professionalism, creativity and commitment have resulted in a contemporary, functional and inspiring learning environment that will serve our school and community well for many years to came.
